The Public Parks Tennis Foundation hosted an event to thank its early supporters. Evan King, highly ranked pro doubles player who was in town for the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships, told the attendees how important public parks had been to his tennis career. Another top professional, Brandon Nakashima, sent a video since he was stuck in traffic. Former Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, founder of the foundation, and Zach Davis, board member, stressed the need for tennis enthusiasts to support the City of Houston in its development and maintenance of neighborhood tennis courts and programs. Zina Garrison, Wimbledon finalist and former fourth ranked in the world, spoke of her journey from MacGregor Park to becoming a top professional. In addition to thanking supporters, the event set the stage for a larger event in the Fall of 2025 that will feature several tennis celebrities and present definite projects that the foundation will assist the City of Houston in developing.
